Opening Keynote: Life & Work Online: Protecting your Identity

Simon Thorpe, Technology Solution Professional, Microsoft

This year SAO worked with the organizers of Innotech to develop a series of panels and presentations titled Why Oregon, which highlight leading-edge market opportunities and innovations for Oregon software and technology companies. These presentations range from security and cloud computing, to mobile, to the electric vehicle industry, to health IT and university research and commercialization. This series includes both a lunchtime keynote at Innotech featuring executives from Intel/McAfee, Mozilla, Simple, and Voyager Capital, as well as a Gala celebration in the evening with a keynote from Cambia Health Solutions’ Chief Innovation Officer, Mohan Nair.

Specialized Why Oregon Topics will include:

EV Panel  (9:30am to 10:20am)

Software is becoming increasingly important to the automotive industry, and nowhere is this more true than in electric vehicles. For example, the new Chevy Volt uses 10 million lines of computer code - compared to just 8 million in the Boeing 787 Dreamliner! Major automakers have begun opening Silicon Valley offices, and Intel Capital recently created a $100 million "connected car" fund. This panel will explore the range of software needs and opportunities created by the growth in electric vehicles.

  • Jeff Allen, Executive Director, Drive Oregon (Moderator)
  • Charlie Allcock, Director, Economic Development, PGE
  • Mark Frohnmayer, CEO, Arcimoto
Mobile Case Study Panel  (10:30am to 11:20am)

Hear from three leading Oregon mobile software companies why every company needs to have a mobile strategy to remain competitive. Using a case study format, Meridian, ISITE Design, and Concentric Sky will discuss three distinct ways that innovative mobile strategies are transforming the way businesses engage with their customers.

  • Holly Files, Co-Founder, Velocx (Moderator)
  • Kiyo Kubo, CEO, Meridian
  • Cale Bruckner, VP of Technology, Concentric Sky
  • Gene Ehrbar, Director of Mobile Strategy, ISITE Design
Luncheon Keynote: Why Oregon?  (12:00pm to 12:50pm)

InnoTech has partnered with the Software Association of Oregon to present this year's Lunch Keynote. The theme of this year's keynote is "Why Oregon?" and will focus on the unique value Oregon offers to the tech community.

While Oregon is well-known as a global hub of the open source software community, our state is also becoming a hotbed for innovation in mobile software, security software, and tech startups. Learn why businesses find Oregon’s open source community attractive, and hear how one company—Mozilla--has leveraged communities around the world to out-innovate and out-compete technology companies with far greater resources. Hear from one of the state’s largest employers—Intel, which has a software and services division that employs more software professionals than any other company in the state. Learn how Intel’s acquisition of McAfee is leading to new innovations in secure computing by leveraging expertise in hardware and software. Additionally, hear from the CEO and co-founder of one of the hottest startups in the country—Simple—which aims to disrupt the retail banking industry through a combination of mobile technology and innovative customer service. Finally, Diane Fraiman, a Portland-based partner at Voyager Capital, will provide an overview of the Greater Portland area’s startup eco-system, and trends and companies to watch in this area. The panel will be moderated by Skip Newberry, President of the Software Association of Oregon.
